More Canon EF Lenses Coming In 2016

Canon recently announced the long awaited EF 35mm f/1.4L II lens. The lens has just started shipping and you can see sample images by clicking on the link above. But there will be more announcements to come in the new few quarters, leading all the way through 2016.

One of my favorite wide zooms is the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II and it will be in line for an upgrade in 2016. Canon is also working on the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS and we may eventually see this glass come on the market in a year or two. Other non 'L' lenses will include EF-S and EF-M as alluded by Masaya Maeda of Canon during a recent interview at the Canon EXPO 2015 in New York City.

Canon has now perfected the Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics technology. This new optical element will find its way into many of the upcoming lens and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III will be a prime candidate. In addition, the EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS III lens is expected to be announced in the near future as well, together with some specialty lenses. The one lens I am most eager to get my hands on is the EF 600mm f/4 DO BR. It will be another great wildlife photography lens in my equipment bag.

Canon will have a busy schedule in the next 6 months or so. The EOS-1D X II and EOS-5D Mk IV are expected to be announced. Keep checking back for the latest news and development.

But there will be more announcement in the next few months. One of my favorite wide zooms is the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II and it will be in line for an upgrade in 2016.

Next month, the once every five years, by invitation only, Canon EXPO 2015 will take place in New York City and Paris. That is the type of venue Canon likes to showcase their upcoming new products and technology and perhaps more information will come out. Keep checking back for the latest news and development.

Canon Announces EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM Lens

Canon has announced the EF-35mm f/1.4L II USM, a new wide angle L-series lens designed for professional photographers wanting to capture their world with a natural perspective. You can see sample images on Canon's China website and more samples taken with the production model of the new lens.

The successor to the legendary EF-35mm f/1.4L USM, the lens is the world’s first to feature Canon’s new Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) optics – ensuring sensational image quality across a diverse range of scenes, from news and sports scenes to weddings.

Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) optics is a pioneering Canon technology that helps significantly reduce chromatic aberration and produce sharper images.

The EF-35mm f/1.4L II USM has been crafted following feedback from Canon’s community of professional photographers and includes a range of advanced optical technologies to deliver the outstanding image quality professionals expect from L-series lenses.

The new lens is the first to include BR optics, a new pioneering Canon-developed lens technology featuring an optical material integrated into a compound element to help significantly reduce chromatic aberration and produce sharper images.

Together with Canon’s high performance lens coatings, including SubWavelength structure Coating (SWC), the lens delivers results with improved contrast and minimal flare and ghosting.

NATURAL, REPORTAGE-STYLE IMAGES

Perfect for capturing images with a documentary feel, using its wide 35mm fixed focal length, the EF-35mm f/1.4L II USM is the ultimate choice for photojournalists, sports and wedding photographers alike. With its wide-angle view photographers can shoot subjects in their natural habitat within the context of their environment, and without distortion. To create shots with beautiful background blur and standout portraits, the fast f/1.4, nine-blade aperture can be used to control depth-of-field, as well as enabling photographers to continue shooting as light levels start to fade.

For a rapid response to scenes unfolding in front of your eyes, the EF-35mm f/1.4L II USM features a ring-type ultrasonic motor to drive the extremely quick and near silent autofocus. A full time manual focusing ring allows you to make fine, real-time adjustments, whether shooting stills or movies.

FLAGSHIP L-SERIES DESIGN AND BUILD

Designed to withstand challenging shooting environments and prolonged use, the EF-35mm f/1.4L II USM boasts the iconic design and build DNA associated with Canon’s flagship L-series lenses. Advanced weather sealing and fluorine coatings help protect the lens against adverse weather conditions and the robust body ensures durability.

Canon Working On EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II Replacement?

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II lens

Canon may be ready to announce the EF 35mm f/1.4L II lens in the second half of 2015. Although the recently announced EF 11-24mm f/4L received a lot of good review, it is still a bit 'slow' for many photographers (including yours truly) looking for a wide angle zoom lens.

The replacement of the venerable EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II lens may be in the works. The lens was announced back in 2007 and is my favorite wide angle zoom in my equipment bag. The new lens' focal length may vary slightly, moving a little bit wider to perhaps 14mm but retaining the fast speed of f/2.8. It will most probably not have IS in the interest of saving weight and keeping the price 'affordable'.
