Canon Announced World's Smallest & Lightest 4K Projectors




MELVILLE, N.Y., November 13, 2018 – Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced two new Canon Native 4K Laser LCOS Projectors – the REALiS 4K6020Z and 4K5020Z.  Compact and lightweight, both new projectors measure 18.8in (W) x 7.1in (H) x 21.4in (D) and weigh a mere 41.8 pounds, making both units the world’s smallest and lightest projectors in their class at less than half the weight of competing Native 4K laser projectors.[i]  In addition, both projectors offer peace of mind with an impressive Five-Year (or 12,000 Hours) Laser Limited Warranty[ii]. Canon is also adding to the company’s lineup of RS projector lenses with the introduction of the RS-SL07RST 4K Standard Zoom Lens. The RS-SL07RST projector lens is the seventh in the lineup and features Canon’s trademark red line around the barrel of the lens, signifying the highest level of Canon optical engineering and quality. All seven RS projector lenses are compatible with the two new projectors.

Canon REALiS 4K6020Z and 4K5020Z Native 4K Laser LCOS Projectors

The new 4K6020Z and 4K5020Z Native 4K Laser LCOS Projectors are ideal for a variety of applications, including art galleries, museums, schools and medical institutions. They are also suitable for product design and simulation use where both high-quality imaging and accurate color reproduction are a must. Both projectors feature LCOS panels and Canon’s proprietary AISYS optical system that helps to deliver 6000 and 5000 lumens respectively. This technology, when combined with true Native 4K (4096×2160) resolution, helps both projectors to produce a cleaner and more robust image with virtually no grid lines.

The laser-light source for both projectors can achieve up to 20,000 hours of operation in typical use or up to 40,000 hours when in Long Duration Mode 2[iii]. The laser-light source allows the projectors to start up in as little as two seconds while in Fast Boot mode[iv], as compared to conventional lamp projectors that may require additional time to light up and stabilize brightness. In addition, users are able to create presets to be set-up to their specific preferences and needs.

The HDR technology of both projectors increases the dynamic range ability, expanding not only the color-gamut range but also the overall brightness, resulting in a more realistic and lifelike image. Additionally, the projectors support HDR10 and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), which produce broadcast-quality HDR images. HLG is becoming widely popular in broadcast industry use.

Additional Features of the 4K6020Z and 4K5020Z Projectors Include :

  • The new RS-SL07RST 4K Standard Zoom Lens features the distinguished red line around the barrel, indicating the highest level of Canon design and superb image quality. The lens can project images up to 600 inches and can even project onto curved surfaces; maintaining focus in the center of the image when peripheral focus has been adjusted.


Additional Features of the RS-SL07RST Projector Lens Include :

MELVILLE, N.Y., — Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today unveiled its REALiS 4K500ST Pro AV LCOS Projector which delivers 4K resolution of 4096 x 2400, up to 5000 lumens* and Canon’s LCOS Technology with AISYS-enhancement for brilliant, high-brightness and detailed image reproduction. The REALiS 4K500ST also offers a Genuine Canon 4K lens and a robust collection of advanced professional setting features, including Marginal Focus which helps ensure content projected on the peripheral portions of domed surfaces remains in focus.

At only 38.8 pounds this model also offers one of the most compact and lightweight form factors of a high brightness 4K Projector. The REALiS 4K500ST’s combination of outstanding image quality, advanced features and compact size make it ideal for applications like immersive simulation and training which require outstanding image quality but may have limited spacing.

Advanced Optics, LCOS and Image Processing Technologies

At the core of the Canon REALiS 4K500ST projector’s highly detailed 4K resolution display capabilities and versatile performance features is the integration of advanced Canon optical, LCOS and image processing technologies.
The new Canon REALiS 4K500ST has a suggested list price of $54,990 and is scheduled to be available through authorized Canon dealers by April 2016.

Optics

The 4K500ST projector comes equipped with a specially designed Genuine Canon 4K short focus wide zoom lens and throw ratio of 1.0 – 1.3:1, allowing it to project a 10 foot. wide image from an approximate distance of only 10 foot. This projection lens is the first to possess advanced spherical focus capabilities derived from Canon’s renowned L-Series EF camera lenses which is distinguished by a bold red ring around the outer barrel. The lens delivers superb performance due to such sophisticated Canon optical technologies as ultra-low dispersion (UD) glass, aspherical lens elements and super spectra multi lens coatings. Advanced Canon optical technology in the REALiS 4K500ST is also present in its next-generation AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) Optical Engine. This unique engine helps ensure the projector delivers an ideal combination of both brightness (up to 5000 Lumens) and contrast ratio (up to 2500:1), while also helping the projector maintain a small form factor. The 4K500ST is also able to deliver a virtually consistent level of brightness throughout its zoom range thanks to the combination of the Genuine Canon 4K lens and AISYS Optical Engine.

LCOS Technology with AISYS-enhancement

The 4K500ST is the newest member of the REALiS Projector series which all feature Canon’s LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) Technology with AISYS-enhancement. This advanced technology is renowned for delivering virtually seamless images with outstanding color reproduction, and low-latency playback for improved display of video content. In addition to offering ultra high resolution of 4096 x 2400, the REALiS 4K500ST is capable of projecting other popular 4K resolutions such as the DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative) standard of 4096 x 2160 as well as Quad Full High Definition (QFHD) of 3840 x 2160.

Image Processing

The REALiS 4K500ST also integrates powerful dual image processing engines that execute such complex tasks as smooth reproduction of uncompressed 4K video at 60 or 30 fps, and two upscaling technology options (BiCubic and Canon’s unique Shape Trace) to optimize 2K video and other non-native 4K resolution content.

Advanced image adjustments on the REALiS 4K500ST include the following optional features :

Motion Blur Reduction: offers three different modes (Strong, Low and Off) for improved visibility when video content movement is fast**.

Dynamic Gamma: analyzes individual areas of an image for specific, independent contrast adjustment so light and dark areas do not appear over or under exposed.

Memory Color Correction: enhances skin tones and other color features for rich, vivid results that look striking to the human eye.

The Canon REALiS 4K500ST also offers six different pre-set image modes, as well as three customizable image modes, to help optimize quality based on content type and projection environment. The projector’s special DICOM® Simulation Mode can be ideal for displaying monochrome digital X-rays, CAT scans, and MRIs with superb grayscale gradation. This mode, which offers both clear and blue base color temperature presets, simulates the results of devices compliant with the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Part 14 standard***.

Ease of Installation and Maintenance

Weighing only 38.8 pounds, the Canon REALiS 4K500ST can be installed to suit a wide range of applications. Motorized Lens Shift, Zoom and Focus and a variety of other advanced professional calibration settings provide further installation versatility, including:

4-Point Keystone Correction: allows the corners of the image to be independently adjusted to help ensure optimal image reproduction.

Built-in Edge Blending: enables the projection of one seamless, large image from multiple projectors without the need of special software.

360-degree Vertical Installation: allows the projector to be positioned anywhere on the vertical axis****. Fan speed can also be adjusted to help optimize results (depending on projector positioning).

Advanced Registration: allows independent position adjustment of the three primary colors (RGB) with high accuracy (0.1 Pixel) ultimately reducing blurred colors or lines often projected at the edge of an image.

Versatile Connectivity

Generous industry-standard connectivity on the Canon REALiS 4K500ST includes four DVI and two HDMI inputs supporting single, stripe and cross configurations for 4K, 2K or HD video playback. This model supports PJLink™ which makes it possible to control and monitor the projector over the network – a feature excellent for observing lamp hours, usage and more. For even more control, the REALiS 4K500ST is a Crestron Connected device and supports AMX Device Discovery.

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 7 September 2015 – Canon today introduces two new 2/3” 4K field lenses – the UHD DIGISUPER 86 (UJ86x9.3B) and UHD DIGISUPER 90 (UJ90x9B). Delivering exceptional optical performance, with the UHD DIGISUPER 86 (UJ86x9.3B) surpassing even 4K resolution, both offer outstanding focal range and are ideal for use within live broadcast production environments.

First class 4K image performance

The UHD DIGISUPER 86 (UJ86x9.3B) and UHD DIGISUPER 90 (UJ90x9B) are part of Canon’s evolving 2/3” 4K lens line-up and join the recently launched CJ12ex4.3B in the range. Both provide professionals with the freedom to shoot live broadcast or sport events in stunning 4K quality, and in a first for Canon’s 2/3” lens line-up, the UHD DIGISUPER 86 (UJ86x9.3B) offers resolving power beyond 4K.

The new lenses ensure exceptional resolution from the image centre to the edges, at both telephoto and wide angle, thanks to their advanced optical construction. To ensure operators can capture a diverse range of scenes, both lenses also feature a built-in 2x extender which doubles the telephoto power, while maintaining exceptional 4K resolution.

4K scenarios such as live sport, do not tolerate even the slightest amount of shake. Thanks to Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer technologies, the UHD DIGISUPER 86 (UJ86x9.3B) and UHD DIGISUPER 90 (UJ90x9B) deliver crisp, clear results, acquiring maximum precision, even during panning. This is essential for tracking moving subjects at sports matches and events, while compensating for swing-back. Additionally, operators are able to keep subjects in focus, even in challenging situations, such as when long focus but shallow depth of field is required.

Canon Developing Lightweight 4K Projector

TOKYO, September 1, 2015 - Canon Inc. announced today that it is developing an LCOS projector capable of displaying 5,000 lumen video and still images at a resolution of 4,096 x 2,400 pixels, a level of definition that surpasses the 4,096 x 2,160 pixel-resolution of 4K digital cinema.

Tracing its beginnings to the movie industry, 4K-resolution content has been gaining traction in the broadcasting industry. Amid ongoing advances in image quality and definition made possible by the introduction of a growing number of 4K production tools, Canon is leveraging its proprietary optical technologies to make its entry into the 4K projector market in 2016.

In addition to growing demand for high-resolution, high-quality imaging performance, there is an increased need for projectors that enable projection from close-range installation locations and offer compatibility with a variety of installation environments to facilitate use in such settings as museums with limited available space, driving and flight simulators, and on the design scene. In response to these needs, Canon is developing the 4K projector as a new model within its Power Projector (REALiS and XEED in other regions) series that not only achieves high brightness and high resolution, but also has a compact and lightweight body to accommodate a range of installation environments.

Equipped with a high-definition 4,096 x 2,400 pixel LCOS panel, the Canon 4K projector under development will support the projection of high-definition content that exceeds the resolution offered by 4K digital cinema. While increases in brightness performance for projectors commonly require larger lamps and cooling systems, resulting in increases in projector body size, Canon’s proprietary AISYS optical system delivers bright 5,000 lumens performance while making possible significant reductions in body size and weight. Additionally, the projector will feature a newly developed 4K wide zoom lens capable of projecting large images from a short throw distance, as well as an optical focusing function that enables the projection of images on curved-surface screens.

Through the further enhancement of its Power Projector series lineup, Canon will strive to respond to the diverse needs of users.
