The Japanese Photography blog, Egami has uncovered a new Canon patent for a full frame, 24-300mm f/3.5-5.6 superzoom lens. In December of 2015, another Canon patent for the EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS zoom lens was discovered.

There are other Super zoom lens from Sigma and Tamron but they are quite professional grade. The current Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS is my favorite all-in-one zoom for wildlife photography when it is not feasible to change lens in the middle of a shoot. However, it was released in 2004 and has an older version of IS.

A new Canon Super zoom lens can certainly benefit from advancement in coatings, optics and Image Stabilization. I will be interested in acquiring both the 24-300mm and 200-600mm zoom lens if they come out in the 'L' model. There is a better than even chance Canon will announce another Super zoom some time in 2016.
