Then, perhaps a day before the EOS-6D Mark II announcement, Canon may announce the EOS Rebel SL2/200D.  It is also possible Canon may decided to announce the Rebel SL2 together with the EOS-6D Mark II on June 29, 2017.

Canon Rebel SL2 / EOS-150 Camera Coming to CP+ Show?

Size comparison - Canon Rebel T5i vs Rebel SL1

The CP+ Show is scheduled to take place on February 25 in Yokohama, Japan. There is a possibility Canon may announce either the EOS-80D or the Rebel SL2 camera for the event.

The rumored Rebel SL2 may be slightly smaller than the SL1, making it the smallest and lightest DSLR on the market. Frankly, I think the Canon SL series of cameras are a product in search of customers. The Rebel T6i and T6s are perfectly good cameras and come with a right combination of performance, size, weight and price.

Canon Rebel SL2 Possible Specifications :

  • 24.2MP sensor
  • 19 point AF system
  • 4.5 fps burst rate
  • 1080/30p video
  • Hybrid CMOS AF III focus system
  • 7560 pixel RGB + IR metering
  • Fixed 3 inch LCD touchscreen
  • Wi-Fi + NFC

What To Expect From CES 2016 in January

The Consumer Electronic Show is only about one month away and takes places on January 6 - 9, 2016 in Las Vegas. Generally, this is a big trade show for electronic, photographic and entertainment companies featuring their 'must have' gadgets and new technologies.

Photographic companies usually showcase their consumer grade cameras and gear with one notable exception. Nikon announced their top-of-the-line DSLR camera, the D4 at the CES 2012. There is a chance they may choose to announce its replacement, the D5 camera at the show in January again. In addition, I reported yesterday Nikon may be in the process of buying Samsung's mirrorless business and they may also make an announcement at the show as well. Samsung has 'officially' denied the rumor but do you really expect them to confirm it before the deal is signed and sealed?

Canon normally announces a few low end PowerShot point-n-shoot cameras at the Show and is not expected to showcase their soon to be released, top-of-the-line EOS-1D X Mark II or the EOS-5D Mark IV until Q1 and Q2 respectively. The smallest DSLR on the market, the Rebel SL1 was announce on October, 2014. Canon may introduce its replacement, the Rebel SL2 and perhaps the EOS-80D DSLR cameras at the Show. Of course, Canon can choose to announce more products after the CES as well, perhaps at the end of the month. Keep checking back. More to come . . . . .

Canon May Announce Rebel SL2 Camera On August 14, 2015

Canon is expected to announce the Rebel SL2 camera and two lenses on August 14, 2015. Although they are expected to announce the EOS-5D Mk IV and EOS-1D X Mk II cameras later this year or early 2016, I would be 'shocked' if it turns out to be either one. My feeling is Canon will wait till Nikon announces their D5 camera first before making a move.

The EF-35mm f/1.4L II plus a EF or EF-M lens may accompany the announcement. Keep checking back for the latest news and development.

Canon Announcement Coming August 14, 2015

Canon may be ready to announce a new camera and two lenses on August 14, 2015. Although they are expected to announce the EOS-5D Mk IV and EOS-1D X Mk II cameras later this year, I would be surprised it turns out to be either one. My feeling is Canon will wait till Nikon announces their D5 camera first before making a move.

My guess is probably the announcement may be the EOS Rebel SL2 camera and perhaps the EF-35mm f/1.4L II plus a EF or EF-S lens. Keep checking back for the latest news and development.

Canon EOS-150D / Rebel SL2 Camera Coming

Canon Rebel SL1 vs Rebel T5i size comparison

Canon announced the Rebel SL1 / EOS-100D camera back in May of 2014. This camera is quite a bit smaller than the EOS Rebel T5i. I am not a fan of this model. It is another example in my opinion of too many models cluttering the space of a decent model line.

Now Canon is planning to announce the Rebel SL2 / EOS-150D some time in the early part of the second half of 2015. The new camera will probably share the same 24MP sensor as the Rebel T6i and T6s cameras. In fact, many of the specs and features will probably be the same, except it will be packaged in a smaller body.
