Canon to announce the XF605 professional camcorder soon

The XF605 is a powerful new camcorder designed for ENG applications and for a wide range of live and recorded productions, including sports, events, documentaries, streaming, and more.

It offers a new level of performance and control to videographers who work solo.

With 15x optical zoom, professional connectivity and advanced autofocus, including eye-detection AF and intelligent head-detection technology for the first time in the XF series, this is a versatile camera that is perfectly suited to studio work or in the field.

Compact in size but equipped with a full range of controls and connections, the XF605 integrates seamlessly into live production and studio environments.

The large 1 inch CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV7 processor deliver professional 4K UHD 60P / 50P shooting in XF-AVC and 10-bit 4: 2: 2 MP4 for exceptional image quality and maximum flexibility in post-production.

The XF605 is the first professional camcorder to feature eye-detection AF technology and EOS ITR AF X, an intelligent head-detection technology that enables videographers to achieve optimal results even in the toughest conditions.

Canon Announced Compact-Servo 70-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 20, 2017 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce today the new COMPACT-SERVO 70-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens (model name CN-E 70-200mm T4.4 L IS KAS S), a compact and lightweight 4K lens constructed for users that demand versatility and portability. A bridge between traditional Canon EF lenses and CN-E cinema lenses, the COMPACT-SERVO 70-200mm can be ideal for filmmakers and documentary shooters who want the control and quality of cinema optics with the lightweight, compact design and features of Canon’s EF lenses.

The second in a new class of Canon lenses, the COMPACT-SERVO 70-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens is a cinema-style lens that includes a servo drive unit as a standard feature. Additionally, the lens incorporates Image Stabilization, Autofocus, and Auto Iris functionality*, three extremely useful features not commonly found in cinema lenses, but are popular in EF lenses. The lens also provides high image quality that supports 4K image productions and was designed to be utilized in a variety of shooting styles including, hand-held, shoulder mounted, and tripod mounted.

The new COMPACT-SERVO 70-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens is a 4K lens and features autofocus and optical image stabilization (with compatible camera models*), resulting in high-resolution imagery, with the ability to assist filmmakers in capturing the shot they envisioned. Compatible with EF-mount Super 35mm large-format cameras, the lens maintains brightness across the entire focal range at T4.4 (equal to f/4.0). The lens is also compatible with both the Canon EF 1.4x III (expanded focal range of 98-280mm) and EF 2x III (expanded focal range of 140mm-400mm) external extenders, expanding the focal range of the lens for additional versatility when the shooting situation calls for it.

For added convenience, cinematographers can control many of the features of the lens in a variety of ways through the EF-mount communication, including Dual Pixel CMOS AF, push auto iris, record start and stop and remote lens control via the camera with an optional remote control, compensation for chromatic aberration** and peripheral illumination, metadata acquisition, and selection of T-number display**.

The COMPACT-SERVO 70-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens features a nine-blade iris aperture diaphragm to help give footage a truly artistic and beautiful look and feel, providing the much desired “bokeh” effect in the out-of-focus areas.

The lens comes equipped with a Servo Drive Unit, which provides seamless switching between servo and manual modes, allowing videographers motorized control of focus, zoom, and iris settings. The Servo Drive Unit is compatible with broadcast style industry-standard lens controllers including Canon’s ZSD-300D zoom demand and FPD-400D focus demand. Like the Canon COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm Zoom Lens, the ZSG-C10 accessory grip will be compatible with the new COMPACT-SERVO 70-200mm Telephoto Zoom lens, further enhancing ease-of-use for ENG and “run-and-gun” style shooters.

The grip connects to the lens through a 20-pin cable, allowing a variety of lens functions to be controlled from the grip, including zooming via a rocker switch, one-shot AF and the starting and stopping of a recording. When the lens and grip are being used with the EOS C100 Mark II, EOS C300 Mark II and EOS C700 Cinema Cameras, users will also have the ability to control the zoom and iris from the camera’s grip unit.

Canon Milestone - 80 millionth EOS Camera Produced

TOKYO, November 18, 2015 - Canon Inc. announced today the achievement of a new camera-manufacturing milestone as combined production of the Company’s film and digital EOS-series interchangeable-lens cameras surpassed the 80-million mark on November 10, 2015. The 80 millionth EOS camera produced was an EOS-5DsR, which boasts the world’s highest pixel count in its class.1

Production of Canon EOS SLR cameras began in 1987 at Canon Inc.’s Fukushima Plant (now Fukushima Canon Inc.), later moving to such production bases as Oita Canon Inc. and Canon Inc., Taiwan. Production rapidly increased following the spread of digital SLR cameras in the early 2000s and the Company is now commemorating a new milestone: the production of its 80-millionth EOS camera.

EOS, which stands for “Electro Optical System,” is also the name of the Greek goddess of the dawn. Introduced in March 1987 as a new generation of AF SLR cameras, EOS cameras were the world’s first to incorporate an electronic mount system enabling complete electronic control not only between the lens and body, but throughout the entire camera system.

Canon manufactures all key components employed in the EOS series, enabling the Company to achieve an even more robust product lineup by selecting the optimal sensor for each model. Drawing from this strength, Canon has helped to pioneer a new age for cameras by launching such innovative products as the compact, lightweight EOS Kiss (EOS Rebel XS or EOS 500 in other regions), which succeeded in expanding its user base, and the EOS 5D series, which celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year.

Big Price Reduction - Canon EOS C300 and C100

Canon Cinema EOS C100 and C300 cameras

Canon announced a major price reduction to their Cinema EOS C300 and EOS C100 cameras. The EOS C300 dropped $5,000 to $6,499 while the C100 dropped by $1,000 to $2,999.

The new prices extend to all the kit configurations, including the Dual Pixel CMOS AF version of the C300. One reason is Canon is planning to announce the EOS C300 Mk II camera at the 2015 NAB Show in Las Vegas starting April 13.

Canon announced the Cinema EOS C100 MkII camera on October 21. The new model will be shipping at the end of December to early January at a list price of $5,499. They have also put out two videos explaining the features and functions of the new camera.

Canon Fixed Lens 4K Camcorder Coming

Canon plans to announce a fixed lens 4K Camcorder in the first quarter of 2015 to compete with the moderately priced Sony X-70, which can be upgraded to 4K. The price tag will be around $2,199.

The upcoming Canon Cinema EOS C300 MkII camera will be taking the lead next year, expect announcement around the 2015 NAB Show, with enhanced improvements, including 4K and other features but this new fixed lens camcorder, will round out the low end of the product line.
