Canon EOS-6D Mark II Camera Coming Q2 2017?

Canon EOS-6D Mark II full frame DSLR?

As reported earlier in September and earlier, Canon is expected to announce the EOS-6D Mark II camera some time in 2017. Originally there was talk perhaps around the CP+ Show in February next year but the most recent information I have received indicates it is more likely to be in Q2 of 2017. The new camera will have a new sensor of mid 20 MP, an articulating screen, dual memory card slots (one CF and one SD) and video capability better than HD but not quite 4K video.

There are cameras out in the wild for testing already. New material and ergonomics will make the Mark II body handle better and lighter. Expect the price to be slightly higher than the Mark I model.

Canon Inc. Q3 Operating Profits Nearly Halved On Yen's Strength

Reuters reported Canon Inc.'s third quarter operating profits almost halved, mostly due to reduction in camera equipment sales and the strength of the Yen. However, Canon is not slowing down in its planned product introduction. The Canon EOS-6D Mark II, EOS-5Ds Mark II and a high end, full frame mirrorless camera are expected to come in the next year or so.

"Oct 26 Japan's Canon Inc said on Tuesday its third quarter operating profit fell 48 percent, hurt by a strengthened yen following Britain's vote to leave the European Union.

Operating profit for the three months ended Sept. 30 declined to 40 billion yen ($383.62 million) from 77.3 billion yen a year earlier. Five analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters estimated an average third quarter operating profit of 58.3 billion yen.

The world's biggest maker of cameras and printers also lowered its operating profit forecast for the year through December to 235 billion yen from a 265 billion yen estimate in July. ($1 = 104.2700 yen) (Reporting by Tim Kelly; Editing by Muralikumar Anantharaman)"

We can expect a host of lower priced DSLR and point-n-shoot cameras to come in the next few months. Expect a Rebel T7i and a few PowerShot models to be announced soon. Nokishita has uncovered a bunch of Canon equipment registration with Taiwan authorities for upcoming product release, most probably for CES 2017 from January 5 - 8, 2017 in Las Vegas.

Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS Super Zoom Lens Coming

Late in 2015, I reported Canon has filed a patent for a Super Zoom EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens and is scheduled to release the lens some time in 2017. The EOS-6D Mark II full frame camera is expected to be announced some time in Q1, perhaps before the CP+ Show in Yokohama, Japan.

There is a chance the EF 200-600mm lens may accompany the EOS-6D Mark II during the announcement. My readers know I am not impressed by the Super Zoom models from Sigma and Tamron in the form of a 150-600mm lens. The new Canon lens will not be a 'L' model. That means it will be priced slightly higher than the third parties lens and most probably not weather and dust sealed.

I may be interested in this new lens depending on the built quality but the one Super Telephoto lens I am most interested in is the EF 600mm f/4 DO BR, expected to debut some time next year as well. Keep checking back for the latest info as I receive them.

Canon EOS-6D Mark II Camera plus New DSLR in 2017

Canon EOS-6D Mark II camera?

I have just returned from another successful wildlife photo trip to the High Arctic testing the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II camera. Trying to get back to my blog and catching up with the latest photography news. It will take me a week or two to get back to speed and precious little time to process the photos because by then, my next tour will be here already. I have a very busy Summer touring season ahead of me. You can see my equipment bag and works on MichaelDanielHo.com

My sources informed me the entry level, Canon EOS-6D Mark II full frame camera will be announced Q1, 2017 with a delivery date of Q2. It may have a new sensor in the mid 20MP range but details are hard to come by right now. Also, there is a possibility Canon may introduce a brand new designation, EOS-XD camera in 2017. This will certainly revive rumors about the EOS-3D, a nameplate that has been mentioned since 2005.

Canon has its hands full with the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II starting to deliver in higher volume now. Then the EOS-5D Mark IV will be announced around August, with a Q4 delivery date. The EOS-6D Mark II and EOS-M4 will be a 2017 story. Keep checking back for the latest info as I get them.

Latest Info on Canon EOS-6D Mark II Camera

I have just returned from a rather successful wildlife photo trip to India. Witnessed two tiger kills from beginning to end on a Spotted and Sambar Deer plus Elephants and Monkeys mating, in addition to many new bird species for me. Trying to get back to writing my blog and catching up with the latest photography and NAB 2016 news. It will take me a week or two to get back to speed and precious little time to process the photos because by then, my next tour will be here already. I have a very busy Spring and Summer touring season ahead of me. You can see my works on MichaelDanielHo.com

My sources informed me the entry level, Canon EOS-6D Mark II full frame camera will be announced Q1, 2017 with a delivery date of Q2. It may share the same sensor as the EOS-5D Mark IV but it's too early to tell right now.

Canon has its hands full with the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II starting to deliver in volume late this month. Then the EOS-5D Mark IV will be announced around August, with a Q4 delivery date. The EOS-6D Mark II and EOS-M4 will be a 2017 story. Keep checking back for the latest info as I get them.

Canon EOS-6D Black Friday Deal - $999 Including Shipping

There is a top-rated merchant on eBay selling the Canon EOS-6D camera for $999 including free shipping. This is an excellent deal for anyone thinking of upgrading to full frame digital photography from either a Rebel or Powershot camera.

Although I am not a fan of the Canon EOS-6D, this camera can be a good value for those who want to enter the world of full frame photography on a limited budget. Read my earlier post on the Canon EOS-5D Mark III vs. EOS-6D comparison and the Nikon D600 is added in for the three way comparison. For those trying to decide between the EOS-7D Mark II and EOS-6D, read my post on their comparison. Expect the Mark II version to make its debut some time in 2016.

My own preference is to buy a refurbished or well maintained EOS-5D Mark III instead. You can read my guide to the best Canon cameras. You will not find a link to this eBay item because I do not accept any ad or commissioned link on my Blog or website and do not endorse any particular company. I am completely unbiased in my reporting and have no conflict of interest. Find the listing on eBay yourself easily. You can see my equipment bag and works on MichaelDanielHo.com

Canon EOS-6D Mk II Full Frame Camera Talk

Canon EOS-6D Mk II full frame DSLR?

Canon is expected to release the EOS-6D Mk II camera some time in 2016. The EOS-5D Mk IV and EOS-1D X Mk II cameras will be announced first before the 6D replacement comes out.

My readers know I am not a fan of the current version of this camera. For those who want to get into full frame photography with a new camera and a limited budget, the EOS-6D may be a tempting option but my advice is to get a refurbished EOS-5D Mk III from the Canon store or some other reputable retailer.

The Series II camera will not come with any ground breaking technology. After all, the selling feature is its lowest price point into full frame DSLR photography. It is still early days to predict the specifications of the replacement camera but I expect it to have evolutionary improvement and perhaps a slight reduction in size and weight due to a newer design and the use of improved materials. However, like the current EOS-6D, it was the first Canon DSLR that came with WiFi. I will not be surprised the EOS-6D Mk II will similarly come with some 'fluffy' technology, like swivel touchscreen LCD, etc.

You can read my recommendation on Canon cameras and see my works on MichaelDanielHo.com

Canon EOS-6D Mk II rumored specifications :

  • 24MP Full Frame CMOS
  • Digic 6+ processor
  • 1.5 stops better at higher ISO
  • Low-light AF (center point) at -5 EV
  • New AF system
  • Additional AF points
  • WiFi with NFC and GPS
  • Wireless battery charging with the Qi standard
  • Dual-Pixel CMOS AF technology
  • Touchscreen and swivel LCD

Canon Planning To Add WiFi To Pro DSLR Bodies?

To date, the only prosumer Canon DSLR that has WiFi is the EOS-6D full frame camera. Apparently, Canon has problem adding WiFi to other higher end models like the EOS-1D X, EOS-5D Mk III, EOS-7D Mk II because of the interference created by their magnesium bodies.

Now a discovery in one of Canon's patents may shed some light on this topic. Has Canon finally worked out the difficulties in adding connectivity to their higher end cameras? Will we see WiFi added to the upcoming EOS-1D X Mk II and EOS-5D Mk IV DSLRs?

US Patent US 9,113,062 B2

“Conventionally, there has been proposed a configuration of an imaging apparatus in which a wireless communication unit is arranged on the top side of a pentaprism in a finder section (see Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2008-244735). However, an accessory shoe for providing communication by being connected to an external device such as a strobe is provided on the visible face of an imaging apparatus.

Therefore, the metal section of the accessory shoe disturbs a radio wave to be emitted from or received by the antenna section of the wireless communication unit upon wireless communication, so that stable communication state cannot be obtained. In addition, the clearance between the wireless communication unit and the accessory shoe needs to be ensured, resulting in an undesirable increase in size in the height direction of the imaging apparatus.

Accordingly, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-75381 discloses a configuration in which the wireless communication unit is arranged on the inclined surface (Dach surface) of the pentaprism such that the accessory shoe does not disturb a radio wave upon wireless communication.”

Canon and Adobe - Power To Create Campaign

Canon and Adobe have team up to promote their products. Buy a Canon EOS-5D Mk III, EOS-6D or EOS-7D Mk II and get a one year membership in Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan plus KelbyOne Online Training, free.

I have just returned from a travel photography shoot in the Canadian Rockies. My readers know I have picked the EOS-7D as the best APS-C camera for wildlife photography four years in a row. The EOS-7D Mk II is fast becoming my favorite body to take that title. You can read my recommendation for Canon's best cameras and see my works on MichaelDanielHo.com

Canon EOS-1D X Mk II, EOS-5D Mk IV, EOS-6D Mk II Update

The second half of 2015 will be decision time for Canon. They want to introduced the EOS-1D X Mk II, EOS-5D Mk IV and EOS-6D Mk II, three full frame cameras that need a replacement soon.

The EOS-6D Mk II will still be the least expensive full frame camera in Canon's line up and may go slightly upmarket with a new sensor, more AF points and higher native ISO with better weather sealing, higher quality material, powered by the DIGIC 6 processor(s).

The EOS-5D Mk IV may come with a low 20MP sensor but will be equipped with a new AF system, perhaps sharing it with the new EOS-1D X Mk II. It will be powered by new processors, most probably dual DIGIC 6+ but DIGIC 7 is also possible but unlikely for now. It will boast superior ISO performance and 4K video is still a possibility.

The EOS-1D X Mk II will be a Nikon D5 slayer. It will have a new mid 20MP sensor, state of the art AF system accompanied by unmatched dynamic range and native ISO performance. Multiple new processors will power the camera to a slightly higher frame rate, perhaps up to 14 fps without the need to lockup the mirror. It will have improved ergonomics and a slight weight and shape change due to improved material.

Everything is still very fluid in the Canon's decision making process. Nothing has been firmed up yet and I suspect once Nikon announce their D5 later this year, we will know more about Canon's plans. Test cameras are out in the wild with selected contract photographers and I hope to get more information as the summer and autumn months roll around. Keep checking back for the latest development. I am still on my road trip in the Canadian Rockies doing some travel photography. Canon EOS-6D Mk II Camera In 2016

Canon EOS-6D Mk II full frame camera?

Canon Japan Rethinks Its Pricing Strategy?

Canon announced the long awaited EOS-7D Mk II camera on September 15 with a list price of $1,799. As you can see from the pyramid above, the new camera is lumped into the section with the EOS-5D Mk III and EOS-6D. Both cameras will be getting an upgrade next year. The current list price of the 5D and 6D bodies are $3,399 and $1,899 respectively.

Last year, I wrote a post commenting on how Canon is pricing their higher end cameras too low by putting too many advanced features on them. Now that the EOS-7D Mk II has been introduced at a price point so close to the EOS-6D, there will be room for the Mk II version to be priced above $2,000 next year. The two cameras are fundamentally different and appeal to separate segments of photographers. To me, the EOS-6D is Canon's way of luring anyone who is interested in getting into full frame photography at a very low price. I doubt they are making much money on this model. My philosophy on photographic equipment has always been to go for value and not low price.

I define value as the best combination of performance, quality and price while a low price is usually achieved by providing the bare minimum quality and features. The next EOS-6D Mk II may go upmarket but still be priced comfortably below the EOS-5D Mk IV by about $1,500.
