Latest Info On Canon EOS-5D Mark IV Camera

I reported last week my sources informed me Canon will be adding a brand new feature to the upcoming EOS-5D Mark IV camera. They are playing their cards very close to their chest and not revealing much except to generate maximum publicity and excitement for the launch next month.

The EOS-5D Mark IV is Canon's most anticipated pro camera after the EOS-1D X Mark II because it promises a continuation of the highly successful EOS-5D line into a new decade. My latest information points to the camera coming with dual card slots - CFast 2.0 and the newer SDXC UHS-II.

Canon will be announcing the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II lens with the new camera. This is my favorite Canon 'wide to short' zoom 'L' lens and it can really take advantage of an upgrade. Looks like Canon has decided to offer the new camera and lens as a kit. I have not decided whether to buy the EOS-5D Mark IV when it comes out. I view the new camera as a little brother to the EOS-1D X Mark II and a more agile cousin to the EOS-5Ds. However, I will definitely buy the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS Series II lens.

So what brand new feature would you like to see in a pro DSLR body that is unavailable so far? Don't know about you but I certainly would like to see a built-in flash instead of the GPS, but that wouldn't happen.

Canon is trying to keep the Mark IV's list price as close to the Mark III ($3,499) as possible but the appreciation of the Yen is making it very difficult for them. Below is the latest information I have on the new camera right now.  The EOS-5D Mark IV will be announced on August 25, in time for the Photokina Show in Cologne, Germany on September 20. A quick update on the EOS-5D Mark IV camera. It is scheduled to be announced on August 25 in the United States, together with the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II lens. Keep checking back for the latest info as I try to update you in between my photo shoots.

In May, I reported the EOS-5D Mark IV pre-production camera is out on field tests with photographers who have signed Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with Canon. The EOS-5D Mark IV is Canon's most anticipated camera after the EOS-1D X Mark II because it promises a continuation of the highly successful EOS-5D line into a new decade. My latest information points to the camera coming with dual card slots - CFast 2.0 and the newer SDXC UHS-II.

This makes perfect sense since the new camera will shoot 4K videos that may even slightly exceed the EOS-1D X Mark II's quality. I have taken delivery of the EOS-1D X Mark II and took it to the Upper Amazon/Peruvian Andes and the high Arctic for real world wildlife photo shoots testing. Canon EOS-5D Mark IV Camera Coming Q2-Q3 2016

Canon has announced the EOS-1D X Mark II camera earlier this month, with delivery scheduled for late April. I have placed my order and anxiously waiting for the DSLR to arrive. Now attention has again shifted to the EOS-5D Mark IV.

My best estimate is Canon may announced the new camera some time in late Q2-Q3 2016. Below are the possible specs I have on the Mark IV. Keep checking back for the latest development.

Canon EOS-5D Mk IIII replaced by EOS-5D X?

There are rumors suggesting the replacement to the EOS-5D Mk III will not be called the EOS-5D Mk IV. Instead it may split into 2 branches, EOS-5D X and EOS-5D Xs. The former designation will be the straight forward successor to the Mk III while the latter may be a version geared towards video users, replete with 4K.

This rumor is not new and the move is not unprecedented. Canon already split the EOS-1D model into the EOS-1D X and EOS-1D C. Frankly, I don't see the need for such a move. The splitting done on the EOS-1D model is not exactly a ringing success. In fact, the EOS-1D C had been heavily discounted and will be subsequently discontinued before long. Canon EOS-5Ds and EOS-5Ds R Specs

As I have reported before I left on my wildlife photo shoot in the Southern Oceans a couple of weeks ago, the Canon EOS-5D Mk III will be split into three models in 2015. The EOS-5Ds and EOS-5Ds R cameras will be announced on February 6, 2015 and the EOS-5D Mk IV may be coming the second half of 2015.

The EOS-5Ds will have a list price of 3,499 Euros, the EOS-5Ds R (no low-pass filter) lists for 3,699 Euros and the EF 11-24mm f/4L lens' price will be 2,999 Euros. The prices in North America, especially in the U.S. are generally lower.

Canon EOS-5D Mk III Replacement Talk

Additional EOS-5D Mk III camera replacement rumors have surfaced. Some are indicating the EOS-5D model may split into 2 branches - EOS-5D MK IV and EOS-5DS, not unlike the EOS-1 Series a few years ago.

The EOS-5Ds may have a 50+MP sensor and perhaps, with the addition of an AA filter, not unlike the Nikon D810 and D750, announced last year. The EOS-5D Mk IV will get a slightly higher MP sensor and presumably a faster burst rate as well, and should appeal to photographers desiring a high megapixel, full frame frame camera with a burst rate faster than the current 6 fps, but nowhere approaching the speed of the EOS-1D X (up to 14 fps).

There is probably an even chance this might happen and I am not too enamored of the idea. Personally, I think Nikon is launching too many full frame camera models and diluting their impact. Canon should not follow in that pursuit. A split of the EOS-5D line into two will inevitably go down the same path as Nikon.

In my opinion, in the next few months, Canon should launch the EOS-1D X Mk II with a higher pixel sensor in the low 20+MP range and retain the burst rate of at least 12 fps. This will give wildlife photographers like myself more pixels to work with when I crop the images since the EOS-1D X is a full frame camera with a sensor of  'only' 18MP. This is one of the few 'criticism' I have of the camera.

In addition, bring out the EOS-5D Mk IV with the megapixel sensor of 50+MP and stuff it with high end features and build quality approaching the EOS-1 series and price it below $5,000 . This will give photographers who craved the successor of the retired EOS-1Ds Mk III something to look forward and upgrade to. Then, perhaps towards the last part of 2015 or early 2016, an additional model with the filter option can be offered, depending on user requirement. This will give photographers time to digest the impact of the new models and not be overwhelmed by the myriad choices confronting them.
