The Canon EOS 77D adopts many key features from the semi-professional EOS 80D. The 24.2 million pixel CMOS-sensor achieves a better dynamic range than its predecessor. A big advantage is that the Dual Pixel CMOS AF that enables a very fast and smooth autofocus during live view and video. Combined with STM or Nano USM lenses, the focus is very quiet. The viewfinder autofocus is also greatly improved, with 45 cross-type points. The new DIGIC 7 processor delivers enough power for fast continuous shooting (6 frames per second) and Full HD-video with high frame rates (1080/60p).
The top place LCD and the quick control dial allow fast operation. Other modern features are the articulated touchscreen and Wi-Fi, which is accompanied by Bluetooth for easy access.

I am still on my Southern Africa on a wildlife photo tour. So far it has been a rather good trip. The Next Generation of EOS 5D Cameras
In addition to the new Full Frame sensor, the new EOS 5D Mark IV includes a 61-point High-Density Reticular AF II system, similar to the one found in the flagship EOS-1D X Mark II, with all AF points selectable by the user (and up to 41 cross-type points depending on the lens in use). The AF system, improved over previous Canon 5D series models, includes expanded coverage across the frame that supports AF at maximum apertures up to f/8 with all 61 points for high-precision autofocus even when using EF super-telephoto lenses with an EF extender. Standard ISO range for the EOS 5D Mark IV is ISO 100-32,000 and is expandable to 50-102,400.
The EOS 5D Mark IV also introduces a new 150,000 pixel RGB+IR metering sensor with enhanced precision and performance compared to its predecessor, improving upon facial recognition and tracking as well as nature and sports scenes with fast-moving action. AF sensitivity in low light is EV-3 and EV-4 when in Live View mode. The EOS Scene Detection System can detect and compensate for flickering light sources that are often used in gymnasiums and swimming pools. When enabled, this anti-flicker system automatically adjusts shutter release timing to help reduce disparities in exposure and color especially during continuous burst shooting.
Following the groundbreaking video recording capabilities introduced in the EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 5D Mark III, the EOS 5D Mark IV takes the next leap forward offering DCI 4K video recording. I have just returned from my Upper Amazon/Peruvian Highlands Photo Tour testing the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II camera in hot, steamy jungles and cold, two miles plus high, Andean mountains. Overall, I am quite impressed by the new body but now I have to take some time to get back to the daily routine, process the photos and get ready for my next trip to again test the camera in a whole new part of the world and environment.

Still on my Upper Amazon Photo Tour in Peru, testing the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II camera. The weather is very hot, extremely humid, rainy, damp and muggy. Wildlife sightings is only marginal. The Mark II is performing quite well.
I have left the Amazon basin and headed up the Peruvian highlands. Came across Hummingbirds at about 12,000 feet. It was an amazing sight. Will fit in some travel photography as well to test landscape images on the new body. Heading to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. I brought the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II lens. Little time to keep up with photography news but want to let my readers know the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III will be announced next month, with shipping commencing July, 2016. In addition, the EOS-5D Mark IV is out on field testing and should be announced before Photokina in September.
This new lens will come with the latest Canon optics technology and exceeds the performance of the Series II, which is currently my favorite wide angle zoom glass in the EF lens lineup.
I have just returned from a rather successful wildlife photo trip to India. Witnessed two tiger kills from beginning to end on a Spotted and Sambar Deer plus Elephants and Monkeys mating, in addition to many new bird species for me. Trying to get back to writing my blog and catching up with the latest photography and NAB 2016 news. It will take me a week or two to get back to speed and precious little time to process the photos because by then, my next tour will be here already. Canon is planning to announce more EF lens this year. Recently, I reported on the EF 200-600mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Super Zoom lens. This new glass may be a Q4 2016 or Q1 2017 event. I have not decided on whether to buy this lens or not even though I like the focal lengths. The one lens I will definitely buy when Canon announces it is the EF 600mm f/4 DO BR.
The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L Mark III will be announced this year, together with more EF-S shorter zooms and EF-M prime and medium zoom lenses.
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L vs EF 16-35mm f/4L IS vs EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II
My readers know me as The Wildlife Ho-tographer because I am primarily into wildlife photography. However, I do some nature, landscape and travel photography as well. The video below compares three of Canon's 'L' series wide angle zoom lens. I have used all three out in the field.
They are all very good lens, well built, quite sharp and fast enough for many types of photography. My conclusion is this. The EF 17-40mm f/4L is the best value wide angle zoom in the lineup. The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II is the best for stationary subjects (landscape and nature) and images that don't move a lot while the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS is ideal for those who want to use the lens to photograph nature and wildlife as well. The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II is my favorite landscape and travel photography zoom lens. It is fast and delivers excellent image quality. With the recent announcement of the EOS-1D X Mark II camera, Canon usually accompanies such a major event with at least one 'L' lens. The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L Series III has been tested and ready for release. Its announcement may come in Q1 of 2016.
My readers know I have picked the current EOS-1D X as the best full frame camera for sports and wildlife photography four years in a row. Egami has uncovered another Canon patent for the EF 16-40mm f/4 lens. The venerable EF 17-40mm f/4L could be in for a replacement in 2016. Canon has been making their new, shorter focal length 'L' lens bigger, case in point - the new EF 35mm f/1.4L II. The expected EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III, which is out in the field for testing, may also be slightly bigger than the current model.

One of my favorite wide zooms is the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II and it will be in line for an upgrade in 2016. Canon is also working on the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS, EF 135mm f/2L IS II and we may eventually see these glass come on the market in a year or two. Other non 'L' lenses will include EF-S and EF-M as alluded by Masaya Maeda of Canon during a recent interview at the Canon EXPO 2015 in New York City.
Canon has now perfected the Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics technology. This new optical element will find its way into many of the upcoming lens and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III will be a prime candidate. The following EF lens are in their final development stages and we could see them announced in 2016 :

It will have the latest Blue Spectrum Optics technology and retains the same filter diameter. It may be slightly heavier due to the new optics and comes with superior weather sealing. Other non 'L' lenses will include EF-S and EF-M as alluded by Masaya Maeda of Canon during a recent interview at the Canon EXPO 2015 in New York City.
Canon has now perfected the Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics technology. This new optical element will find its way into many of the upcoming lens and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III will be a prime candidate. In addition, the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III and EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS III lens are expected to be announced in 2016 as well, together with some specialty lenses. The one lens I am most eager to get my hands on is the EF 600mm f/4 DO BR. It will be another great wildlife photography lens in my equipment bag.

But there will be more announcement in the next few months. One of my favorite wide zooms is the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II and it will be in line for an upgrade in 2016.

I reported on Monday Canon is working on a replacement for the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L IS II lens. Now Egami, the Japanese photography blog has discovered a new patent for the Series III version of this lens. The current lens is my favorite wide angle zoom because of its speed and performance. It is always in my equipment bag when I go on photo shoots.
