Canon Japan has decided to take the next step in marketing and customer experience by opening Canon Experience Stores. The stores will be open around the world, eventually, but will start in North America first, apparently. The official announcement may come next week.
This is not a unique concept in consumer photography or marketing. Leica, Apple, Sony, etc. all have stores featuring their own products. Canon's stores will give the customers a hands-on experience, replete with dazzling HD computer screens and audio visual displays. This is an expensive approach to marketing and may hold the imagination of customers for a little while if Canon showcases some truly state-of-the-art concept equipment. Ultimately, a company must consistently produce high quality and advanced products to keep the loyalty of its customers in the long run.
