New Canon EOS-1D Camera Announcement
The long awaited, mega-pixel replacement to the EOS-1Ds Mk III may come in the form of a product development announcement in the second quarter of 2014. Very few details are available but the camera will be an indication of Canon's intention to retake the 'crown' from Nikon on this mega-pixel arms race.
The new camera should be priced about the same as the discontinued EOS-1Ds Mk III - around $8,000. There are major sporting events coming up in 2014 - Winter Olympics and World Cup soccer. The Canon EOS-1D X Firmware upgrade, available in January 2014 and the new mega-pixel camera announcements fit in nicely with these upcoming venues. The new camera will probably be spotted around the games for testing with delivery available in late 2014 or early 2015.
There may also be an announcement for the new Canon EOS-M2 camera some time in November. Canon seems to be in a funk right now and may have no more new product announcement until 2014. Keep checking back for the latest developments.
