MELVILLE, N.Y., May 15, 2014 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announces that it will begin offering free firmware upgrades* for four imageCLASS laser multifunction printers and one PIXMA Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One printer that have received Mopria™ certification, allowing for simple and convenient printing from select mobile devices.
The Mopria™-certified Canon printer lineup includes the imageCLASS MF6180dw/MF6160dw and Color imageCLASS MF8580Cdw/MF8280Cw laser multifunction printers for home offices and small-to medium-sized businesses, and the PIXMA MG7120 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One printer.
The upgrades allow for automatic detection of these Canon devices over a Wi-Fi connection from Mopria™-certified smartphones, tablets and other compatible mobile devices.** Users can print documents and photos from these mobile devices by simply selecting a detected printer indicated on their device’s screen.
Mobile printing to date has required the installation of applications specific to each printer manufacturer or model. With the unified Mopria™ standard, users will be able to print through the same simple print procedure to Mopria™-certified Canon devices, along with other certified devices. Additionally, as the number of Mopria™-certified printers increases, users will be able to easily print wirelessly from mobile devices from home, in the workplace or on the go.
Canon, as a founding member of the Mopria Alliance, is among the first companies to begin developing Mopria™-certified products. Canon will continue its efforts to make printing as convenient as possible for users while enhancing its lineup of Mopria™-certified products.
