Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS II and EF 800mm f/5.6L IS II

Canon EF line of primes, telephotos and super telephoto lenses

Canon's Series II Super Telephoto lens have been out for about a year now. They have gained a lot of experience in engineering and material production of these new models. However, there are two lenses in Canon's super telephoto lineup that have not been utilizing the new technology and material, namely the EF 200mm f/2L IS and the EF 800mm f/5.6L IS.

There are reports the inventory of these two lenses are sporadic to low. Since the production run of these expensive lens are small, Canon plans ahead of time to make sure there are no excessive inventory left over when they introduce the Series II versions. This is not a guarantee that the EF 200mm and EF 800mm will be replaced but there is a good chance they will once Canon officially releases the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS 1.4X super telephoto lens, probably at the beginning of the second half of 2013.
