The incomparable Canon EOS-1D X full frame DSLR camera |
I just came back from a Humpback whale photo shoot in Maui, Hawaii. The equipment that did the yoeman's work for me are the EOS-1D X, EOS-1D Mk IV, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS and EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS lenses.
The EOS-1D X in particular was simply fantastic with its lighting AF lock and 12 fps burst rate. The lighting was mostly good so I did not have to use ISO higher than 400. I went out in zodiacs and the water spray from the waves got the cameras and lenses all wet but they held up very well.
It is now about 6 months since I bought the EOS-1D X. It has gone through quite a few rigorous photo shoots in Alaska, Canada and Europe and proven its worth. The camera is a complicated piece of technology and fortunately most of the manuals are available in videos so one can download them in the camera and view on the LCD screen. That is very cool. You can read my review of the camera and read my blog postings to follow my travels. Download the tutorials from Canon here. There are many topics to choose from.
