Canon Executives Hint At More STM Lenses

Canon EF 40mm and EF 18-135mm STM lenses

A few Canon executives have been giving interviews lately. They include Mr. Masaya Maeda, Chief Executive of Image Communication Product Operations ; Mr. Masato Okada, Deputy Chief Executive of ICP Group One and Mr. Naoya Kaneda, Senior General Manager of ICP Development Center. I hasten to point out Canon executives are not known for giving out useful information to indicate any upcoming product announcements.

The synopsis of all the interviews are as follows : Canon is fully committed to further STM lens development and there will be more STM lenses coming, both wide angles and telephotos, some with image stabilization, for both photography and videography. These lenses are extremely quiet and autofocus continuously while in video mode. Currently, there are 4 models of STM lenses available : EF 40mm f/2.8 ; EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS ; EF-M 22mm f/2 and EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. It will be greeted with enthusiasm when Canon brings out additional STM lenses.
